Saravan, Iran
Saravan (Balochi and Persian: سراوان, romanized: Sarāwān, also Romanized as Sarāvān; formerly, Shastoon)[3] is a city in, and the capital of, the Central District of Saravan County, Sistan and Baluchestan province, Iran, and also serves as capital of the county.[4] The city lies in a long valley in the south of Masheked and north of Makran.

At the 2006 census, its population was 58,652 in 10,078 households.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 59,795 people in 13,257 households.[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 60,014 people in 15,929 households.[2]
Saravan lies in the Iranian Balochistan, close to the international border of Pakistan. The inhabitants of the city are Baloch and speak the Balochi language.
Earthquake
In winter of 2013 a major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 Richter occurred near the city of Saravan.[7]
Attacks on public figures
Saravan is the location of many attacks, presumably by Baloch insurgents.
- Justice Judge Ebrahim Karimi was assassinated[8][9]
- Rare suicide bombing kills four[10]
- October 26, 2013: About 20 Iranian border guards are killed in an attack by rebel Baloch bandits near Pakistan border.[11]
