Neapolitan (napulitano in Neapolitan and napoletano in Italian) is the Romance language spoken in the city of Naples, Italy and in all or parts of the surrounding regions of Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Lazio, le Marche, Molise, and Puglia.
Neapolitan can be a challenging language at times as it is non-standardized, that is, there is no absolute authority that is the go to source for spelling and usage. There are though many generally accepted norms used throughout Neapolitan's large literature and we will focus on those here while pointing out variants where it is important or interesting.
