Varzaneh

Varzaneh (Persian: ورزنه)[3] is a city in the Central District of Varzaneh County, Isfahan province, Iran, and serves as both capital of the county and of the district.[4]

At the 2006 National Census, its population was 11,506 in 2,981 households, when it was in the former Bon Rud District of Isfahan County).[5] The following census in 2011 counted 11,924 people in 3,443 households.[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 12,714 people in 3,900 households.[2]

In 2021, Bon Rud District was separated from Isfahan County to become Varzaneh County and divided into two districts and four rural districts. Varzaneh was designated as its capital.[4]

Geography

Varzaneh is 105 km southeast of Isfahan and 240 km from Yazd. The area of this city is more than 23000 square kilometers, which is located at an altitude of 1477 meters above sea level. Its climate is desert and completely dry, so that in July its temperature reaches 40 degrees Celsius. Temperatures sometimes drop below zero after midnight in January and February.[7][8]
