In or about 2000, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum began its Hilton Smith Legacy Award for "Relievers of the Year".
- The TSN Comeback Player of the Year Award was established in 1965 and was recognized as a Major League Baseball (MLB) award. In 2005, MLB started its own MLB Comeback Player of the Year Award.
