The ongoing armed conflict between Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups[43][lower-alpha 15] and Israel military forces began on 7 October 2023,[44] on the morning of the Shemini Atzeret Jewish holiday, 50 years after the start of the 1973 Yom Kippur War.[45][46]
