The Nartheciaceae Fr. ex Bjurzon has also been placed in the order Nartheciales Reveal & Zomlefer, Novon 8: 176. 15 Jul 1998. It contains a single species that is native to New York.[2]

Stenanthium
Stenanthium leimanthoides is closely related to S. densum (Osceola’s plume, black snakeroot, crow poison). If lumped as conspecific, S. densum would probably have priority, since its basionym is Melanthium densum Desr. (1797).

Family Smilacaceae
Members he Smilacaceae (greenbrier or catbrier family) have leaves that are not typical of most monocots, in that their veins are reticulate (net-like) between major veins. Smilax is the only genus of this family found in the wild in New York State.[1]
