SK 21

SK 21 is the working title for an upcoming Tamil-language film directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy, who co-wrote it with Stefan Rrichter. It is produced by Kamal Haasan, R. Mahendran and Vivek Krishnani under Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures Films India. The film stars Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi.

The film was officially announced in January 2022 with the tentative title SK 21, as it is Sivakarthikeyan's 21st film in the lead role. Principal photography commenced in May 2022. The music is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, while the cinematography and editing are handled by SH Sai and R. Kalaivanan, respectively.

Development

In late December 2021, it was reported that Rajkumar Periyasamy would team up with Sivakarthikeyan for his next directional. It was further reported to commence after the latter finishes his film with Madonne Ashwin, which became Maaveeran (2023).[3] On 15 January 2022, the project was officially announced by Kamal Haasan, who would be producing the film along with R. Mahendran under the banner Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures Films India. The project was tentatively titled as SK 21.[4] In mid April, Rashmika Mandanna and Sai Pallavi were reported to play the lead female role. Harris Jayaraj was also reported to compose music for the film.[5] In mid May, Sai Pallavi was finalised as the lead female role.[6] Anirudh Ravichander and G. V. Prakash Kumar were also reported to compose the songs for the film, until it was officially confirmed in 3 May 2023 that G. V. Prakash Kumar is composing the songs.[7] A muhurat puja was held on 5 May in Chennai with the presence of the film's cast and crew.[8]

Filming

Principal photography commenced on 5 May 2023, with the first schedule in Kashmir,[9] but the shooting was halted in mid-May due to an event happening there.[10] It later resumed in end-May.[11] The schedule concluded by 1 September.[12] The second schedule commenced in Chennai on 21 October 2023.[13]

Music

The film's music and background score is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, in his maiden collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan and Rajkumar.[14]
