Pinguy OS is a discontinued Linux distribution for x86-based PCs, based on Ubuntu,[2][3] featuring a modified GNOME desktop environment designed for enhanced user-friendliness.

General info

Pinguy OS is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu. It was developed to address perceived gaps in Ubuntu's user-friendliness and functionality, especially for new users. The author aimed to create a distribution that combines ease of use with comprehensive functionality, while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing interface.

Although the distribution comes with many pre-installed applications, browser plugins, multimedia codecs and system utilities, many users could perceive this as unnecessary bloat, given that Ubuntu and many of its descendants come with a lot of useful software as well, without retaining a large memory and storage footprint.[4]

Beta: The 6 month Pinguy OS releases will be missing features that will be in the final LTS, but the release will be very usable.[13]
