The old name of the city is Minyat Ibn Salsil (Arabic: منية ابن سلسيل, lit. 'abode of son of Salsil').[3] Proudly, its people also call it Almanya, similar to Minyat, which means Germany. That is because they consider it a city of science and wisdom.
