In 2023, the village gained the attention of international media,[2][3] when the Roman Catholic priest of the local parish deliberately destroyed carved pumpkins in secret on the night of October 15–16, 2023, and then again the following night. The pumpkins had been used by children to decorate a local park near the church before Halloween.[4]

Kurdějov lies approximately 24 kilometres (15 mi) north of Břeclav, 30 km (19 mi) south of Brno, and 212 km (132 mi) south-east of Prague.
