Jalil Khayat Mosque
The Jalil Khayat Mosque (Kurdish: مزگەوتی جەلیل خەیات, romanized: Mzgawti Jalil Kayat) is a Sunni Islamic mosque in Erbil, Kurdistan Region; the largest in the city. The mosque was begun by Jalil Khayat who died in 2005; and the mosque was completed in 2007 by his sons in memory of their father.[1]

The mosque's style resembles the Mosque of Muhammad Ali in Cairo and the Blue mosque in Istanbul.[2] It has been cited as one of the most beautiful mosque interiors.[3][4] Alkhayat construction company states that 'The mosque building relies on Islamic architecture and al-Abbasi design except the domes', which are an Ottoman design. The height of the main dome is 48 metres (157 ft), the diameter is 20 metres (66 ft), with four half domes and twelve quarter domes surrounding it.[5] The mosque is 15,000 square metres (160,000 sq ft) and holds about 1,500 to 2,000 people.[6]

The mosque is located in 60m street in the heart of Erbil, in front of van royal hotel.
