International career

Balyu was named to the Belgium squad for the 1920 Olympic Football Tournament, which Belgium hosted.[1] He made his sole appearance for his country in Belgium's first match, a 3–1 second-round[note 1] victory over Spain. Balyu played poorly and would not see the pitch for the remainder of the tournament.[2] Although Balyu did not play for Belgium again, he collected a gold medal as Belgium defeated Netherlands in the semifinals and Czechoslovakia in a controversial final match.

Notes

  1. Belgium received a first-round bye, as there were only fifteen teams entered to play in the single-elimination tournament.
