Plot
Lakshmi Bajwa is a kind and naive Punjabi Hindu girl from a village who believes in helping others. After the death of her parents, she and her younger sisters, Shalu and Bani, are taken to Mumbai by their greedy aunt, Rano Bajwa. Rano tries to get Lakshmi married to a drunkard driver, Balwinder, so that she could usurp Lakshmi's father's property, as his last wish was to see Lakshmi happily married. Lakshmi saves the life of Rishi Oberoi, an industrialist. Rishi's mother, Neelam, gets them married. After marriage, Lakshmi falls in love with Rishi but discovers that their marriage is a sham for one year to keep his death at bay. Rishi had "Markesh Dosh" in his horoscope which brings life threatening troubles to his life, and to save him, Neelam had got him married to her, as her horoscope was lucky for him. Lakshmi realises Rishi is planning to marry his girlfriend, Malishka, after one year by divorcing her. After several misunderstandings created by Malishka, Lakshmi divorces Rishi and leaves his house. Later, Rishi realises his love for Lakshmi and confesses his feelings but Lakshmi rejects him and so that he could marry Malishka for Neelam's happiness. Rishi brings back Lakshmi to his house and decides to marry her off to a suitable groom.
The Oberois fix Lakshmi's alliance with a rich businessman, Vikrant Kakkar. Soon, Rishi discovers that Vikrant is already married to a woman, Saloni, who was pretending to be his sister-in-law. He exposes Vikrant, breaks his own alliance with Malishka and moves out of the house with Lakshmi when Neelam refuses to accept Lakshmi as her daughter-in-law. Rishi and Lakshmi get married in a temple, which further angers Neelam.
