Background

Rexha began making the album in December 2021, beginning with "Seasons", the first song written for the album, which was inspired by Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide".[6] Rolling Stone described the album's sound as a mix of "Seventies pop, Stevie Nicks lyricism [and Rexha's] more familiar dance-pop sound", as well as her "happiest, highest" yet, as Rexha frequently smoked marijuana while making the album, and released the single "Satellite" with Snoop Dogg on 4/20, April 20.[6]

Rexha announced Bebe on March 15, 2023, revealing its cover art and release date.[9] On March 30, she revealed the tracklist.[10] Bebe was released on April 28, 2023, through Warner Records.[11]

Neil Z. Yeung of AllMusic rated Bebe 4 out of 5 stars and felt that it "makes a stronger impression than its predecessors and has enough high points to further support Rexha's position as a masterful pop songwriter capable of churning out the hits. With Bebe, she comes another step closer to a fully realized vision that could pull her into her own true spotlight moment."[15]

Jeffery Davies, reviewing the album for PopMatters, opined that it is "fun to listen to" and "simultaneously a nod to the pop of days past and a life raft, finally signaling that Rexha doesn't have to sell out to be interesting", on which Rexha's "talent is on full display".[16]

Mike DeWald of Riff Magazine wrote that Rexha "turns back the clock" on the album, "infusing '70s disco sound and aesthetic with '80s pop and modern production", and that she "take[s] the sounds of the past and likely introduc[es] them to new audiences. It also shows Bebe Rexha has plenty more to say".[17]
