Abbas Afridi (cricketer)

Muhammad Abbas Afridi (born 5 April 2001) is a Pakistani cricketer who plays for Multan Sultans and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.[2]

Personal life

Abbas Afridi was born on 5 April 2001 in Peshawar.[3]

He is the nephew of former Pakistan international cricketer and fellow fast bowler Umar Gul.[4][5]

Domestic career

In September 2018, Afridi made his List A debut for Habib Bank Limited in the 2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup.[6]

In October 2018, he made his first-class debut for Habib Bank Limited in the 2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.[7]

In December 2019, he was named in Pakistan's squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.[8] He remained leading wicket-taker for Pakistan in the tournament.[9]

In February 2021, he joined Karachi Kings for the 2021 PSL.[9] The next month, he made his Twenty20 debut for the team.[10][11]

In October 2021, he was named in the Pakistan Shaheens squad for their tour of Sri Lanka.[12]

Afridi was the top wicket taker in the 2023 PSL by taking 23 wickets one more than teammate Ihsanullah Representing the Multan Sultans.[13] Afridi was selected by the Montreal Tigers in the 2023 Global T20 Canada and was praised for his hat-trick against the Vancouver Knights.[14]
