KÍ were the defending champions, having won their 20th Faroese title in the previous season.[1] They defended their title after winning 5-0 against ÍF. With B36 losing 6-0 against Vikingur, KÍ just needed a point against their opponents, which they did with 3 games left.
KÍ started the league season with 16 straight wins, one of the best known season starts in European top division football, before losing 1-2 to Víkingur on 13 August.
Teams
ÍF and TB Tvøroyri joined as the promoted clubs from the 2022 1. deild.[2] They replaced Skála and NSÍ Runavík who were relegated to the 2023 1. deild.[3]
