Top-seeded Steffi Graf of Germany won her 63d title, defeating third-seeded Arantxa Sanchez Vicario of Spain, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, to capture a tournament in Hamburg, Germany. Using a vicious backhand slice, a powerful serve and a new full-court strategy, Graf got the upper hand early in the match, forcing Sanchez into repeated errors and moving ahead by 4-0 after 15 minutes.
