Import and Merge
Simple Imports
Wikipedia:Guernsey French
Request that this be imported so the general information can be merged into the relevant book sections; and in particular, the Guernsey French phrases listed can form the basis of the phrasebook. I am intending to work with Guernsey French speakers and authors to write original content, but until then this is the only content under a license which can be used. - This isn't something we can bring in with the import tool. You would be able to bring it in and provide a link for the attribution requirement of the license. It needs to be available under the 3.0 License, however, as that is our site license. – Adrignola talk 19:57, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the guidance, I will check with the author if he can publish under the 3.0 license. Is there any easy way to find difference between 2.5 & 3.0 so that I can help author to refer the comparison. Yndesai (discuss • contribs) 05:35, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Zeppelin
Actually not a "simple" import, it's only the starting point. Right now the w:Zeppelin article is dominated by a large material that in my opinion is (a) off-topic, (b) too detailed, and at the same time (c) original research. The material should be really titled World War I/German bombing of the British Isles to describe its actual topic. Presently the material is found in the sections w:Zeppelin#1915 bombing raids, w:Zeppelin#1916 raids, w:Zeppelin#1917 raids, and w:Zeppelin#1918 raids of the Wikipedia article. I plan to remove this from Wikipedia and replace with a very short summary. I plan to heavily edit the imported page here and leave only these sections (plus some context), and at the same time rename it to the proper title. --Kubanczyk (discuss • contribs) 14:18, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- Wikibooks does not accept original research. Do you plan to remove that content after the import here? Otherwise you'd want to request an import at Wikiversity. – Adrignola discuss 00:13, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
- Ups, I didn't know that and assumed otherwise. Seems strange, significant books are all about individual's own research. Well then, no, the whole point is to preserve this original research, as I intend to remove it from Wikipedia. --Kubanczyk (discuss • contribs) 08:08, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, I took a minute to check Wikibooks:Policies and guidelines. It seems that original research is allowed on Wikibooks. This one is historical timeline: it is verifiable and uncontroversial, simply very detailed and very poorly sourced. Wikibooks:Original research is a "draft" only, but it also seems to allow this kind of material. --Kubanczyk (discuss • contribs) 08:20, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
- Original research, specifically primary research is not allowed; drafts with no approval have no bearing. Our project scope policy has a specific section that prohibits primary research. "Examples of things not allowed on Wikibooks include proposing new theories and solutions, presenting original ideas, defining new terms, and coining new words." However, it sounds as though your use of the term does not match our definition of it. Please remove any content that is not in line with our project scope from Transwiki:Zeppelin. – Adrignola discuss 12:21, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
- OK, please ignore this transwiki request. --Kubanczyk (discuss • contribs) 11:42, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- Forgive me for butting in, but IMO you are still welcome to craft a project based on this idea as long as you conform it to policy. DOn't be too easily discouraged. MHO.Geofferybard (discuss • contribs) 19:13, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Diablo Canyon (Power Plant) at Wikipedia

This user now has importer privileges. Thank you to Wikibook administrators.
article is quite bare bones considering the vastness of the topic. It will need lots of reworking as its topic becomes central going forward. I will be available to at least set a pattern for expansion of the material, which certainly does justify a full book. The top three will be enough to get a good start on this book!

- Hi Geofferybard, With the different sections here I was a bit confused as to exactly what needed importing, perhaps you could explain a bit more about what you need. Are you writing a book specifically about the Diablo Canyon Power Plant? Or is this part of California Public Policy and Citizen Participation? Thenub314 (talk) 21:25, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

- This will be cloned for SONGS (nuclear plant in San Diego area, then generalizable for use re "lessons learned" from Fukushima. I have already written or spoken on this topic at NRC, Boards of Supervisors and City Councils and can contribute original material but no one person can contribute the voluminous technical material when much exists already on Wikipedia. Status report on Special:Import
I have experienced successful import of most but not all files at wikipedia. The troublesome files seem to be larger files, but some large files, such as 2011 Tokohu Earthquake, did import. Despite perhaps a dozen or more attempts, the files connect to Fukushima Disaster simply won't budge: transwiki, user space, mainspace, none seem to work. As per the text at the top of this page, it may be necessary to copy/paste and attribute through alternative means. However, good news, I have come up with a scheme to provide more detailed attribution. The method has been deployed on a test page from simple wikipedia, where I have had no luck importing. (I will insert the URL at a later time but asap if I am aware that someone is answering this.) The method is as follows:
- Rather than merely one link to wikipedia, I copy the entire Wikipedia Revision History. I then create of page of that information on WikiBooks. Ideally, on my creation of the corresponding mainspace page, I link, in the edit comment, to the copied Wikipedia Revision History. Viola! Add a bit of explanatory text, and all the data regarding attribution is conscientiously preserved on our domain. Even if wikipedia were to be hacked by Martian hacker attacks, all those generous CCL contributors would be immortalized at Wikibooks.
- The one question I have is whether it is better to set up the attribution page on user space or on mainspace. If the former, is it preferable to set up a /subpage of the discussion page of that mainspace page, or an independent higher level page (not a subpage?)
- FYI I am discussing this at metawiki with I think a bureacrat there to see if he can think of any hacks to get the job done.
Best to reply at my user page so I get a New Message alert thanks. Template:Help [[User:Geof Bard गीता]] (discuss • contribs) 04:52, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

That will probably win you friends in the long run but it can become quite time consuming on larger book projects. I believe the simply link does satisfy the basic CC-BY-SA 3.0 License and GFDL requirements, but the added attention is a nice touch which is always a good means of building trust and confidence.
