Understand

Yongin is home to large scale amusement parks and resorts (including Korea's largest, Everland), the Korean Folk Village and a ski resort. Although it is outside of the capital Seoul, it is often regarded as a suburb and is reachable on the Seoul metro network. One of the main television stations, MBC, has its drama studios here, with its K-Drama productions being extremely popular throughout East Asia.

History

During the Three Kingdoms Period, it was the land of Baekje(BC18~AD660) during the founding of Baekje, and during the heyday of Goguryeo(BC37~AD668), it was the land of Goguryeo. Later, Shilla(BC57~AD936) unified the three countries and became the land of Shilla. During the Goryeo Dynasty(AD918~1392), it was a Cheoin Bugok until the early 13th century, but it was promoted to Cheoinhyeon for the achievement of killing Salita in the Battle of Cheoinseong. At the time of the Joseon Dynasty(1392~1897), Yongin was a historical hub of transportation, and it was the place where Yeongnam-daero, which existed until the end of the Joseon Dynasty, passed, and it was also the middle point from Incheon-Suwon to Yeongdong area. Since the founding of the Republic of Korea(1897~), Yongin-si has been the most populous city in the country for nearly 20 years. In 1995, a typical urban and rural complex city in the metropolitan area with a population of about 240,000 was promoted from county to city in 1996, and the population increased rapidly as it became a satellite city of Seoul. The development is steep compared to other cities through the following table.Additionally, it was designated as a special city on January 13, 2022.
