Schönwald im Schwarzwald is a small village in the Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It was here that the Cuckoo clock was invented in 1737 and the village, naturally, exploits this historic claim to fame.

  • 🌍 Reinertonishof, Schwarzenbach 12. Local museum, building originally from 1619 and rebuilt in 2006 after a fire. Also offers pony rides, carriage rides and sleigh rides during winter.
  • 🌍 Blindensee. A raised bog lake situated in the middle of the forest brimming with rare plants.

During winter:

  • 🌍 Dobel Skilift, Franz-Schubert-Straße 3. Ski Lift used by locals and tourists a like. Beginner friendly and there is a ski rental close by.
  • 🌍 Rößle Skilift. The other ski lift in town. Beginners should be aware that the slope is rather steep.
  • Around the village there are dozens of kilometres of cross-country ski trails waiting to be explored.
