Saarijärvi is a rural town in Central Finland, Finland.

In the 19th century Saarijärvi developed rapidly with industry. There were several mills, sawmills and tanneries in the area, and later a textile factory was established. Saarijärvi became a major industrial town, attracting a large labour force from the surrounding areas.
