Hundreds of families in the village are all surnamed Mao, which is the birthplace of Jiangnan Mao Clan, the ancestral home of Mao Zedong, and the ancestral home of Mao Fumei, the original wife of Chiang Kai-shek in Fenghua, and Mao Yanwen, the wife of Xiong Xiling, the first Premier of the Republic of China. It has been 1500 years since Mao Yuanqiong, the eighth ancestor of Jiangnan Mao Clan, moved here.
