The East Gate
Gordion was the capital of Phrygia, a kingdom in the region around 1200-700 BC, though it was inhabited at least since 2300 BC. It has given name to the legend of the Gordian Knot; whoever would be able to open it would be chosen to "rule Asia" (back in the day the Middle East and not the land all the way to Papua). Alexander the Great solved it by just cutting it through with his sword.
Today the only habitation is the village of Yassıhüyük, about 1 km from the site.
