Gicumbi (formerly Byumba) is a district in Northern Province of Rwanda. Gicumbi is one of five districts of Northern Province used to be called Byumba Province. Gicumbi covers 829 lm² Gicumbi is located in the east of the Northern Province,the northern side of Gicumbi borders with the Republic of Uganda and Burera District, the eastern side of Gicumbi there is Nyagatare and Gatsibo,the western part there is Rurindo District, the southern of Gicumbi there is Gasabo of Kigali city, and a small part of Rwamagana District at the side of Lake Muhazi. The city center of Gicumbi is in Byumba Sector and Gatuna sector.

Gicumbi is located on the major road going to Uganda, from Kigali to Kampala. The main border of Uganda and Rwanda is in Gatuna at 57 km from Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. know that There are buses from Kigali to Kampala and the border station for check in and out is Gatuna. you may find buses and private tax car once you are Traveling from Kigali to Gicumbi City and Gatuna.
