Parque da Mônica
On March 5, 2015, it was reported that the new Parque da Mônica would reopen at Shopping SP Market. The park replaced O Mundo da Xuxa, which closed at the beginning of the same year.[1] The new venture is a partnership between the São Joaquim Group, which manages Shopping SP Market, and Maurício de Sousa Produções, under the direction of Mauro Sousa, son of Maurício.[2][3] For the new park, an investment of around BRL 38 million was made to purchase new attractions and renovate the old ones and the site.[3] Maurício and the team responsible for creating the new park maintained the original proposal of being a place to bring back the backyard of yesteryear, looking for a place with less focus on technology, where children can run and exercise.[4] The concept of being a park aimed at the whole family was also maintained, with interactive and educational attractions.[3] As it occupies an area of over 15,000 m2 (50% larger than the area of the previous one), the new park is considered the largest indoor theme park in Latin America and can receive up to 3,000 visitors at the same time.[5] The inauguration took place on July 4, 2015, with an opening ceremony and the presence of Maurício de Sousa with his family, representatives of the São Joaquim Group and guests to meet and experience the attractions of the new park.[6] The following day, July 5, 2015, the park opened for the general public.[5]
