Ravana Rajput is an Indian caste.

Origins

Ravana Rajputs are the Kshatriya[1],[2]who lost landholding and become poor during feudals time,they start living in princely states and palace by working as different position like Daroga a police official,[3] Hazuri a Manager , Wajir a minister, kotwal a chief, solder, gaurd etc,[4] [5]. They has the indefinite right to interfere in every work of Princely state and palace.[6][7][8]

In order to raise their status, these people organized themselves into a caste[9]

Historically, the Ravana Rajputs have led the armies [10] [11] the Ravana Rajputs are highest in the rural caste hierarchy.[12]

According to a 2013 Business Standard report, the Ravana Rajputs form around 7% of the Rajasthan state's population.[13] They have been granted the Other Backward Class status for affirmative action.[14]

In July 2017, the Ravana Rajput community were among those who protested against the alleged fake encounter killing of Anandpal Singh, who belonged to their community and was considered a hero by many in his village.[15] Aside from being a gangster, Singh was known for having escalated the rivalry between Rajputs and Jat people.[16] and the agitation following his death united the local Rajput community.[17]
