Pavlo Barbul (businessman)

Pavlo Barbul (Ukrainian: Павло Олексійович Барбул; born 29 January 1987, Odesa, Ukrainian SSR) is a Ukrainian businessman, lawyer, a former chief executive officer of Ukrainian largest company, the state-owned foreign trade enterprise by turnover Spetstechnoexport.[1]

Early life

In 2003, Pavlo Barbul graduated from Lawrence High School (USA) under the Future Leaders Exchange program.[2] In 2007, he graduated from the Ukrainian State University of Finance and International Trade with a master's degree in International Law. In addition, while studying at the university, Barbul was certified as a specialist in the Ukrainian stock market.

In 2017, Barbul received an MBA from Kyiv-Mohyla Business School.[3] In 2021, he defended his PhD thesis at the Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. In 2021, he also became a graduate of the Aspen Institute Kyiv in the Business and Society program.

Career

In 2014, after the Revolution of Dignity, Pavlo Barbul became a security advisor to the Director General of the State Concern (SC) Ukroboronprom. In one year as an advisor, he compiled and sent materials to Ukrainian courts regarding 30 violations in the defense industry. After some time, Barbul was appointed Director of the Asset Management Department of Ukroboronprom.[2]

In 2015, Pavlo Barbul was appointed director of the state-owned Spetstechnoexport, becoming the youngest CEO in the history of Ukraine. In a short time, Barbul managed to establish effective relationships with defense industry partners from the United States, Canada, India, the UAE, Indonesia, Malaysia, Algeria, Egypt, and countries in the European region.[4]

Barbul coordinated the export of aviation equipment and high-precision weapons, and paid great attention to promoting startup projects in Ukraine.[5] In particular, he supported and helped develop companies developing unmanned reconnaissance systems and vehicles.[6] In June 2018, Pavlo Barbul's contract with Spetstechnoexport expired and he resigned as director of the state-owned company.[2]
