New Delhi Leaders Declaration

The New Delhi Leaders Declaration is an official non-binding declaration that seeks to place emphasis on strong, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive growth. The declaration was adopted following the joint consensus during the 2023 G20 New Delhi Summit.[1]

Background and timeline

On September 10, 2023, the New Delhi Leaders Declaration was adopted unanimously by all 20 members during the 2023 G20 New Delhi summit.[2]

On 18 October, 2023, P K Mishra, Prinipal Secretary, Government of India, has chaired a meeting and announced that the 7 webinars will be held to engage various experts from all over the country to gather insights from area experts on the effective implementation of the New Delhi Leader’s Declaration.[3]

Summary

The declaration's motto says "We are One Earth, One Family, and we share One Future".[4]

Preamble

The declaration's preamble acknowledges the global community's failure to meet the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, as well as the pertinent issues of poverty and an increased average cost-of-living.[5]

Later in the preamble, the G20 Leaders promise to:

  • Fulfill the 2030 Agenda with "full and effective implementation".
  • Reduce GHG emissions.
  • Provide easier access to medical care and supplies.
  • Offer wider access to digital infrastructure.
  • Close the gender gap.

"For the Planet, People, Peace, and Prosperity"

In reference to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, the G20 Leaders state:

"In line with the UN Charter, all states must refrain from the threat or use of force to seek territorial acquisition against the territorial integrity and sovereignty or political independence of any state. The use or threat of use of nuclear weapons is inadmissible."[6]

The G20 Leaders then offer appreciation for the mediation efforts of Türkiye, specifically the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which was in effect from July 2022 to July 2023.
