Liam McLaughlin (baseball)

Liam McLaughlin (born September 16, 2002), is an American former college baseball pitcher for the Babson Beavers. He is from Darien, Connecticut.

Early life and education

McLaughlin was born to Scott and Margaret McLaughlin on September 16, 2002. At age 6 McLaughlin began playing little league for the Dr. Murray's team. At Darien High School, McLaughlin was a member of the Darien Blue Wave Baseball team for 4 years, playing first base and pitcher. In 2018, the team won the FCIAC Baseball Class L Championship. McLaughlin also earned All-FCIAC Baseball Honorable Mention in 2019 and was named team captain for the 2019-2020 season. Outside of baseball, McLaughlin was involved at the St. Thomas More Church and volunteered at Person to Person.

Career

McLaughlin attended Darien High School in Darien, Connecticut. His pitching repertoire includes a fastball, changeup, and breaking ball. As a senior in 2020, he had posted a 60 yard dash of 7.17. McLaughlin played for the Blue Wave during high school and the Baseball U Connecticut team in the summer of 2019.

On December 17, 2019, McLaughlin committed to Babson College to play college baseball, enrolling in the Class of 2024. As a freshman at Babson, McLaughlin's first semester was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a failure to abide by the University policies. As a result, McLaughlin's housing was revoked for the first semester. McLaughlin posted a 2.45 ERA during the 2022 season.[1] After the 2021-2022 season, McLaughlin left the team to focus on his academic and e-sports career, and currently plays for the club team.

Personal life

McLaughlin is a lifelong New York Yankees fan, and has claimed to have met Bobby Valentine at a young age at his sports academy in Stamford, Connecticut. McLaughlin is also an avid Rocket League player, consistently performing at the Champion and Grand Champion level in ranked doubles. On November 2, 2020, McLaughlin reached the top 8,000 in the world for ranked doubles with an SR of 1,612. McLaughlin is the captain of the Rocket League team for Babson Esports and has taken up commentating for the team's Overwatch matches.

McLaughlin has stayed quite active since leaving the Babson baseball team, participating in intramural basketball and taking up golfing. On June 7, 2023, McLaughlin decided to go to the driving range during the 2023 Canadian wildfires, remaining outside even as the air quality in New England reached higher levels than anywhere else in the world.

McLaughlin is a fan of Greek wine and has started a wine reviewing list stemming from his travels abroad. McLaughlin visited London, England in October 2022 to see friends and attend a Manchester City game, and went to Paris, France in September 2023 for a wedding.

McLaughlin has been dating Seton Hall starting goalie Morgan Fedosiewich since 2022, where they met when she was a member of the Babson women's soccer team.
