Joan is an upcoming British television series for ITVX, with Sophie Turner depicting real-life character Joan Hannington, a figure known as "the Godmother" by certain aspects of the British criminal underworld.

Synopsis
The series will show Hannington's journey from housewife and mother, to petty offender, to diamond thief and criminal mastermind in 1980s London.[1]

Production
The six-part series was announced in November 2022 with Sophie Turner leading the cast as Joan Hannington. It has been created by Anna Symon, who is adapting from Hannington's 2004 memoir I Am What I Am: The True Story of Britain's Most Notorious Jewel Thief, with the pair meeting as Symon was writing the series.[2] Paul Frift serves as producer and it is directed by Richard Laxton. The project comes from Snowed-In Productions and is executive produced by Ruth Kenley-Letts, Jenny Van Der Lande, Neil Blair and Richard Laxton.[3] The series is co-produced in association with All3Media International, which will handle distribution of the show outside the United Kingdom, and The CW, which will air it in the United States.[4]
Casting
Dillane was revealed to be joining Turner in the cast in May 2023.[5]
Filming
Filming for the series began in May 2023 in Herne Bay, Kent.[6] Filming also took place that month in Birmingham, England.[7] Filming also took place in August 2023 in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. Filming also took place in September 2023 in Malvern, Worcestershire.
