Jigarthanda DoubleX

Jigarthanda DoubleX (also known as Jigarthanda 2) is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language period action comedy film directed by Karthik Subbaraj and produced by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, Alankar Pandian and S. Kathiresan under the banners of Stone Bench Films, Five Star Creation and Invenio Origin.[1][2] It is a standalone prequel to Jigarthanda (2014) and stars Raghava Lawrence and S. J. Suryah in the lead roles. The soundtrack and background score are composed by Santhosh Narayanan while the cinematography and editing are handled by S. Thirunavukkarasu and Shafique Mohamed Ali.

Development

In early April 2022, it was reported that Karthik Subbaraj was going to begin working on the sequel for his film Jigarthanda (2014), which was praised by both audiences and critics. It was further reported to be funded by Subaskaran Allirajah under Lyca Productions and would star Raghava Lawrence and Bobby Simha, who would reprise his role from the original film.[6] On 1 August, coinciding 8 years since the release of Jigarthanda, the project was officially announced.[7] S. J. Suryah and Santhosh Narayanan were reported to be a part of the cast and crew as actor and music composer, respectively.[8] Karthik, on Vinayagar Chathurthi (31 August 2022), shared that the pre-production of Jigarthanda 2 began.[9] He further had stated that the film would not have any connection to the predecessor and would be a new story.[10]

The first look poster was released on 11 December 2022, with the film's title revealed as Jigarthanda DoubleX.[11][12] The teaser was released on 12 December 2022.[13] The makers announced that the film will be released in Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu. The cinematography was handled by S. Thirunavukkarasu, who earlier worked on Karthik Subbaraj's Petta and Mercury. Shafique Mohamed Ali is the editor.[14]

Filming

The film's shoot started in Madurai on 12 December 2022.[15] Principal photography began with the first schedule at Thandikudi and the shot was done 14 days at Thandikudi.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack and background score for the film was composed by Santhosh Narayanan.[16]

Release

Theatrical

The makers had announced that the film would release in Diwali, along with the dubbed versions of the film in Telugu and Hindi languages.[17][18]

Home Media

The streaming rights were sold to Netflix, while the broadcast rights were sold to Sun TV.
