On September 10, 2021, Hecklinski was officially named the team's starting quarterback for the remainder of the 21–22 season. He impressed in a primarily run-oriented offense, totaling 1471 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in his sophomore season.
In 2022, Hecklinski had his true breakout season with the Raiders in a new offensive scheme and attracted the attention of multiple colleges across the nation, after throwing for 3520 yards, 37 touchdowns and 5 interceptions, along with leading Walton to what has been called the "biggest upset in Georgia high school football history" to a 42–35 win over Dylan Raiola's Buford High School in the 1st round of the GHSAA Playoffs. On December 12, 2022, Hecklinski officially committed to Wake Forest University as a 3-star prospect, choosing the Deamon Deacons over Eastern Kentucky University, Georgia Southern, and UCF.
