James Rube Garrett Jr.
James Rube Garrett Jr. (June 5, 1922 – March 6, 2011) was an author and United States Marine Corps officer. He is known for writing A Marine Diary: My Experiences on Guadalcanal.[1]

While a corporal in the Marine Corps, Garret served as the Ammo Chief for I Battery, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines, and had been a charter member for the 1st Marine Division, which was formed in Cuba in 1940. During World War II, Garrett penned diary entries detailing his four months of action during the Guadalcanal campaign, documenting his experiences around the Solomon Islands.
