Hugo de los Reyes Chávez
Hugo de los Reyes Chávez (born January 6, 1932) is a Venezuelan state politician and the father of the late Venezuelan president, Hugo Chávez (1954–2013).

Early life
Chávez was born in 1932 to José Rafael Saavedra de los Reyes and Rosa Inés Chávez (both deceased) and he has a brother named Marcos Chávez.[1]
Political career
Hugo was a regional director of education and subsequently rose to prominence as a member of the social christian Party COPEI.[1] He was governor of Barinas for three terms from 2000 to 2008.[1]

Personal life
Chávez and his wife, Elena Frías de Chávez, started their careers as local schoolteachers.[1] He dropped out of school after completing the sixth grade, later qualifying to teach. Reyes Chávez had 11 children.[1]
He is best known as the father of President Hugo Chávez (1954–2013) and is also the father of Adán Chávez (born 1952), who succeeded him as Barinas governor and the former mayor of Sabaneta, Barinas from 2004 to 2016, Anibal José Chávez Frías (1956–2016) as well as the governor of Barinas from 2016 to 2021, Argenis Chávez (born 1958).
