Eugenie Jones
Eugenie Jones is an American jazz vocalist, songwriter, and producer.[1] She collaborated with 32 jazz artists, including Reggie Workman,Bernard Purdie, Julian Priester, Bobby Sanabria, and Lonnie Plaxico.[2] She was named Jazz Heroes by Jazz Journalist Association in 2023.[3]
Biography
She was born to Eugene & Tommie Lee Parker in Morgantown, West Virginia.[4] Her parents were members of the choir at Friendship Baptist Church.[5]
Career
After her mother died in 2008, she began singing to cope with grief and was drawn to the Seattle jazz scene.[6] She started by leading her church congregation in songs, and later met Bernie Jacobs, who invited her to Seattle vocal jams.[7]
Jones released her debut album, Black Lace Blue Tears, in 2013, which was well received by critics and won the Earshot Jazz Recording of the Year Golden Ear Award.[8] Her follow-up album, Come Out Swingin, released in 2015, also received critical acclaim and earned her the title of NW Vocalist of the Year from Earshot.[5]
Jones latest album, Players released in 2022, ranked #7 on Jazz Week’s Top 50 charts and #30 on Jazz Week’s top 100 albums for 2022.[9] The project was recorded in the four different regions of the US and featured 32 jazz musician including Delvon Lamarr ,Reggie Workman, Julian Priester, Bobby Sanabria, and Lonnie Plaxico.[10]
