Daniella Cicardini
Daniella Valentina Cicardini Milla (born 31 December 1987) is a Chilean marine biologist and politician of the Socialist Party elected to the Chamber of Deputies from District 4 in the Atacama Region since 2018.[1][2] She was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies from District 5 and served a single term from 2014 to 2018 before moving to the newly established District 4. She currently serves as second vice president of the Chamber of Deputies.[3]
Background and career
Daniella Cicardini was born in 1987 in Copiapó. Her father, Maglio Cicardini Neyra is a politician and a former member of the Socialist Party. He was elected councillor of Magaly Milla Montaño commune in 2012 and served as the mayor of Capiapo from 2008 to 2016. Cicardini attended San Lorenzo Private School in Copiapó for her secondary education before proceeding to Universidad Católica del Norte where she earned a degree in marine biology in 2011.[4][5]
Cicardini's political career started in 2013 following her nomination by the Socialist Party to run for the District 5 seat in the Chamber of Deputies. But a faction of the party protested against her nomination for lack of experience having graduated from the university just two years earlier and accused her father, the mayor of Capiano of conniving with the party's leadership in Santiago to impose her daughter on the party.[6][7] The aggrieved faction of the party vowed to work against her in the election but Cicardini received the support of a coalition of leftist political parties and won the election serving from 2014 to 2018. She was elected to a second term in the Chamber of Deputies from the newly established District 4 in the Atacam Region in 2018 and was reelected for a third term in the 2021 parliamentary election.[8][9]
Cicardini is a member of several standing committees including Mining and Energy, Internal Government, Nationality, Citizenship and Regionalisation. She has served as a member of investigative committees that probed theft in the El Salvador Division of Codelco and the irregularities in the National mining Company. Cicardini is a member of Chilean-Italian Parliamentary Group, Chilean-Indian Interparliamentary Group, Chilean- Israeli Interparliamentary Group and the Chilean- Moroccan Interparliamentary Group.[10][11]
