Spain are the current champions, after defeating Portugal 4–2 in the 2023 final to win their nineteenth title. The most successful team is Portugal, who have won the competition twenty-one times.

- In 1936 and then from 1939 to 1956, the tournament was also considered a World Cup.
- Originally scheduled to be held in July 2020, at La Roche-sur-Yon, the tournament was delayed and his location changed to Paredes due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe.
