C. Balagopal
C. Balagopal is a writer, industrialist, former civil servant and philanthropist from Kerala state, South India.
Biography
He studied economics at Loyola College before joining the IAS in 1977. He has worked in Manipur[1] and Kerala.[2][3][4]
He founded the company Peninsula Polymers (Penpol).[3] which manufactured indigenously developed biomedical devices after resigning from the civil service in 1983. After liberalization, the company merged with a Japanese company in 1999 to form Terumo Penpol Ltd.,[5] which is one of the largest manufacturers of blood bag systems in the world.[6][2] This company exports to more than 50 countries in the world.[3] He sold the company to Terumo Corporation in 2011.[7]
He is the founder of ANAHA Trust, which supports social entrepreneurship.[2]
He is a Director of the medical devices incubator TIMed.[2]
He has also worked as an independent director on the Board of the Federal Bank Ltd[2][3] and is the current Chairman.[8][9]
