Background and Battle
Jammu had been tributary to the Bhangis and Kanhaiyas. The Sialkot district was in the immediate neighborhood of Jammu.[1] The Ranjitgarh fort was made by Maharaja Ranjit Dev to mark his southern boundary. The Bhangis of Sialkot captured the fort in 1787.[2] Bran Dev came to drive away the Bhangis but was killed in a battle fought at Rumal.[3]
