Background

In August 1918, German garrisons were placed in Sukhumi, Ochamchire and Adler to protect the northern border of Georgia from Russia (from both the "White Movement" and the "Red Army"). Due to the constant threat to Georgia's sovereignty, the garrisons maintained combat readiness, although they avoided engaging in hostilities.[1] From Tbilisi, Mazniashvili received another order to chase the enemy and move to Kuban. The main Russian army was fortified at Belorechensk station.

Battle

On August 4, Mazniashvili attacked the advanced Russian detachment, which was standing 6 km from Tuapse. During the attack, the Georgian army met the main force of the enemy, the regiments of Mikhail and Maykop, with three battalions and an armored train, totaling 4 thousand men, led by Antonov. The battle began 4 km from the village of Grecheski. After a six-hour battle, Antonov's army was defeated, they lost a steamer and an armored train. The Georgians arrested the entire personnel of the train, seized 20 rifles, 30 machine guns, a large amount of ammunition, four sets of trains, a field kitchen, food, and a flock of sheep. In order to finally destroy the enemy, the pursuers took Krivenkovskoe station at 4 pm and advanced 5 kilometers.[2]
