History
Ariadaha Kalachand High School was established in 1884 by a group of people who wanted to promote modern education in their village.[5][6] They followed the examples of Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar and Reverened Krishnamohan Bandyopadhyay and the movement of ‘Young Bengal’.[3] They started the school as ‘North Suburban Academy’ in the house of Mr. Sashi Bhusan Ganguli near the current location of Ariadaha Kalachand High School.[3]
The school is located in Ariadaha-Dakshineswar, a place that has a history of Bengal Renaissance and cultural activities.[2][3] The school was later renamed as Ariadaha Kalachand High English School after Mr. Kalachand Das, whose son Mr. Sibapada Das donated land for the school building. The school is now known as Ariadaha Kalachand High School and is a leading educational institution in Belghoria P.S. of Barrackpore Sub-Division.[3]
The school became a Higher Secondary School in 1959 and offered three streams: Science, Commerce and Humanities.[3] The school under the guidance of qualified teachers, especially Mr. Dulal Chandra Ghosal, the former Headmaster, improved its standards. The old gothic structure of the school was replaced by a new four-storied building with an open air stage and a modern auditorium.[3]
