Thys was born on 18 March 1894 in Kontich, Antwerp, Belgium.[1][2] Thys studied at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts, where Thys was a student of Isidore Opsomer.[1] Thys specialised in painting portraits and landscapes.[3][1]
