The band was formed in 2012 in Recklinghausen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany by guitarist Marvin Bruckwilder, bassist Julian Englisch, and drummer Jonas Baier.[1] At the beginning of 2013, Dario Sanchez, the second guitarist, joined the band; At the end of the year, Tobias Rische was brought on as the frontman and lead vocalist.[1]

On February 18, 2015, the band signed a record deal with Redfield Records, through which the band released their debut EP Values & Virtues about a month later. The song Phantoms featured on this extended play features Michael McGough from Being as an Ocean as a guest vocalist.[2] Immediately afterwards, the group went on a smaller European tour with the US metalcore band Kingdom of Giants, which toured through Italy, Czech Republic, Poland, Switzerland, Germany, and Netherlands.[3] They had performances with The Ghost Inside and Parkway Drive, as well as appearances at the Impericon Festival in Leipzig, the Mair1 Festival and the With Full Force.[1][4][5] The group also played as a replacement for Northlane at the Southside.[6] Between November 6 and 28, 2015 the band was the opener on the complete Impericon Never Say Die! Tour, which also featured performances by Fit for a King, Cruel Hand, Being as an Ocean, Defeater, and The Amity Affliction.[7] Between May 25 and 29, 2016, the group completed their first headlining tour of Japan.[8] Previously, the band played from 4th .A European tour accompanied by Acres and Casey until March 26, 2016.[8][9] On February 20, 2016, the group was announced for Summer Breeze.[10]

On February 19, 2016, a new single, Blossom, was released online at Alternative Press.[8] In April, drummer Jonas Baier's departure was announced. Instead, Kassim Auale, formerly active with Breakdowns at Tiffany's, joined the band as another singer.[11] Auale was a contestant on X Factor in 2011, where he made it to the fourth live show.[12]

Name change to Alazka

On March 29, 2017, the band officially announced the band name change to Alazka.[13][14]

In addition to the first single Empty Throne, two more singles, Phoenix and Ghost, were released from the upcoming album Phoenix which was released on September 1, 2017, on SharpTone Records.

Band Changes and Breakup

The single Dead End was released on October 4, 2019. When this single was announced on Facebook, it was also announced that Kassim and Dario were leaving the band due to musical differences.[15]

In September 2020, the band finally announced their dissolution.[16]

Style

Alazka play a melodic variant of metalcore, which can also be described as post-hardcore or even melodic hardcore. The music is comparable to groups like Being as an Ocean, The Plot in You, and The Amity Affliction.

Tim Hofmann from Freie Presse attests the EP a "fabulous number of hits" and "a poignant atmosphere" which is "amazingly close to Sempiternal by Bring Me the Horizon."[1]
