2023 American–Middle East conflict

On 18 October 2023, American military bases in Iraq, Iraqi Kurdistan and eastern Syria were attacked by three drones. Pentagon officials insisted that there are few casualties.[2][3][4][5] On 26 October 2023, United States DoD said it conducted airstrikes on two facilities in eastern Syria linked to IRGC-backed militias in retaliation for the attacks.[6]

2023 Al-Asad air base attack

On 18 October 2023, amid the 2023 Israel–Hamas war, Iraqi militants launched a drone attack on Al-Asad Airbase, a United States base in northern Iraq.[7][8] The attack was intercepted.[9]

The next day, a false alarm in the airbase caused the death of a civilian contractor from cardiac arrest.[10] On 20 October, the US ordered all non-emergency staff to leave their embassy in Baghdad and consulate in Erbil.[11]

American response

United States Defense response by bombing weapons and ammunitions storage facilities in Abu Kamal, Syria.[12] They further stated that a total of 16 military attacks were conducted by Iran backed groups; 12 in Iraq and 4 in Syria.[13] The operation was carried out by F-16 Fighter Jets.[14]
