@hotel

@hotel (sometimes written as AtHotel) is an online travel agency used for booking hotel rooms through its website, Instagram, and TikTok page. Through its social channels, @hotel offers discounts for hotels. By offering booking via social media rather than a website, @hotel is not required to adhere to the same pricing structure and may offer lower rates as a result.[1]

History

@hotel was initially founded in 2015 as a walking tour app called TripScout by Konrad Waliszewski and Andy Acs. It was intended to be a digital guide for travelers with suggestions made by locals to enhance vacation experiences and streamline recommendations other than the most popular tourist destinations.[2]

After the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, TripScout attracted an Instagram audience using travel videos after Instagram launched its Instagram Reels product in 2020.[3]

In June 2022, TripScout raised $10.25 million in a Series A investment round.[4] TripScout has raised more than $18 million of venture capital to date.

The following month, TripScout rebranded to @hotel and became the first-ever social media-based online travel agency. Under its Instagram and TikTok handle, @hotel, it offers discounted closed user group pricing on lodging.[5][6]
