The Legilimens spell initiates Legilimency, the process of reading thoughts and feelings from a subject.
Extended Description
Harry first encounters this spell when learning Occlumency from Professor Snape. Legilimency is the process of reading thoughts and feelings from a subject. A wizard or witch may use Legilimency to tell if someone is lying to them. Lord Voldemort is especially skilled at detecting lies using Legilimency. This may be countered by a wizard or witch if he or she is a skilled Occlumens, that is, skilled in Occlumency. Professor Snape appears to be proficient at legilimency and is definitely an accomplished Occlumens, even able to lie to Lord Voldemort.
