A coma is profound state of unconsciousness. To determine if someone is in a coma it is recommended to use the glasgow coma scale.
Glasgow coma scale
The glascaw coma score is in a scale of three to fifteen, three being the worst.
Eye response
- 4- Eyes open spontaneously
- 3- Eyes open after verbal command
- 2- Open when in pain
- 1- No response
Verbal response
- 5- Oriented (responds properly)
- 4- Disoriented
- 3- Inappropriate response
- 2- Unintelligible sounds
- 1- No response
Motor response
- 6- Obeys to verbal command correctly
- 5- Localizes to pain
- 4- Withdrawal to pain
- 3- Can flex to pain
- 2- Extend to pain
- 1- No response
