Most businesses do repair and maintenance work on the products they sell. If the work is done under warranty, there is no charge to the customer. Service Management schedules on-site and depot service, defines product warranties, handles service contracts, and controls whether there are charges. Contrast this with Preventative Maintenance. Not every ERP package has a Service Management module although all the large ones do.

Tables

Service Management shares the Customer group of tables with Accounts Receivable. It has a Contract table which contains one record for each service contract with each customer. Associated with this Contract table is a Transaction table which contains one record for every service performed under that contract.

Data Exchange

Service Management creates invoices in Order Entry/Invoicing.
