Nouns
- The word drink is the same in both English and Dutch, when you use the verb: I drink - ik drink.
- However, for a drink in Dutch you say:
een drankje. |
- It is the diminutive of drank which means beverage.

Verbs
"Drinken" is a very common verb in Dutch. But, be careful! "Drinken" is a strong verb with vowel changes in the past tense and the past participle.
Present The present has three forms
drink | drinkt | drinken |
ik drink—we drinken
je drinkt—jullie drinken
hij drinkt—ze drinken
Past The past has two forms:
dronk | dronken |
ik dronk—we dronken
je dronk—jullie dronken
hij dronk—ze dronken
