Despite the name, wild rice is not rice. It is a seed native to the Great Lakes region of North America. Compared to other grains, wild rice is highly nutritious. The seeds are purple-tinted black, 1/3 to 1/2 inch long, and about 1/16 to 1/8 inch in diameter.
